Fireplace stone work

Both the upstairs and downstairs fireplaces will have a stone fascia and hearth. The stones are the same as the exterior of the house.

Powder room tiles

The upstairs powder room will have tile on the floor and up the walls to a standard wainscoting height. Kim chose to use travertine floor tiles on the walls up to about two feet. Above that we will use a travertine mosaic in a brick pattern of small one by two's. Above that she chose a travertine bull nose listello. All of the tiles will be from the same color plate. The shower will be tiled also. We weren't charged for the soft drink cup!

More tile work

Library shelves - hmm

The library is essentially done. The only color I picked in the entire house, due to inferior color palete potential, was the library shelves. They are white white white. And they are shiny too. Unfortunately we need to tone down the bright white color so we are working with the painter and his suppliers to try a tinted glaze. Wish us luck.

Kitchen floor tiles almost done

Soffit work begins

The soffits are prefabricated metal and will extend from the roof shingles all the way to the exterior wall.

Exterior stone work

The outside needs to be tented in order to prepare the surface mortar because of the cold temperatures. When they tent an area it is usually small and heated.

Finish coats of paint in greatroom

Library Shelves - 80 in all

The shelves have four coats of paint to defend against the wear and tear of actually taking the books off the shelves and reading them......

Beams now stained

The massive beams have been stained to match the rest of the wood trim and floors. The basement has been painted but the photos don't capture what I'll call the beauty of Kim's color choices. Stay tuned for photos that look good.

The finished wood trim and interior doors arrive next Thursday. This includes the door/window casings, the baseboards.

Exterior stone

The stone for the exterior walls arrived, actually half of it arrived. The contractor does not want too much on site because if it snows on the stone, they have to chip away the ice which takes a long time. We expect it to take a month to complete the stone work outside, then they have to install more on the fireplaces, etc.

The painter started the interior today and expect to be done in a week.

Library complete

Here is a picture of the doorway from the library into the office, framed by the shelving. The other photo shows the stack of 80 book shelves. Imagine having to paint each shelf!

Bathroom beadboard

Here is a shot of the bead board in one of the downstairs bathrooms. The bathroom will have varying levels of bead board on all walls.
